SparkPlug Productions was originally created following the first performance of an adaptation of Extremities, performed at Taurus Bar in Canal Street in June 2006.

The adaptation of Extremities was birthed following Greg having three separate conversations over coffee, one with Emma, a separate one with Lisa and an additional conversation with Zoe. It is safe to say that it was not a speedy process.

Having all graduated from the BA (Hons) Performing Arts Degree together, at The University of Salford we were suitably hungry a year on to get up and 'Do' something. Although individually there were career successes, collectively we just felt that we didn't want to wait for casting directors to come to us. We wanted to produce a platform on which to be seen and heard.

The Play it's self was not merely chosen for it’s three female and one male cast stipulation (though this was helpful). It was a piece of work that Zoe had worked on prior to university with a director called, Darren Gordon. So we decided to invite him to a read through of the play and after a collective agreement asked if he dared come on board, he said yes and the rest is well history I suppose you might say. Although Darren owns DNA, a performance based resource company as well as teaching many acting classes, we have adopted him as our artistic director and being that little bit removed from the company has provided us with much need perspective at times.

Although the company is just over a year old, we have managed to perform two separate productions of 'Extremities' as well as securing an invite to perform at The Lowry Theatre, which is a massive achievement for us personally as a group.

It has been extremely challenging at times trying to run a non-profit production company with four working actors and a rather busy director. However as we seem to achieve successful performances, positive feedback and audiences for our work, we have the enthusiasm and drive to continue to learn and grow as a company.
